In a heartfelt statement, the Princess of Wales concluded Baby Loss Awareness Week.
“Baby Loss Awareness Week is such an important moment to support those who have experienced the devastation of baby loss.” – Catherine wrote on social media, alongside a picture of a candle. “Sending love, strength and hope to anyone affected. #WaveofLight C.”
The ‘Wave of Light’, which marks the end of Baby Loss Awareness Week and involves candle lighting worldwide to honor pregnancies and baby loss, falls on the same day as the royal’s message.
In honor of the poignant day, Catherine and her husband, Prince William, released the following statement last year: “This #BabyLossAwarenessWeek, let’s take a moment to reflect on everyone who has been impacted by pregnancy and baby loss. There are resources and organizations in this thread that offer assistance and guidance to families and loved ones who are most in need.”
The royal couple wrote: “Child Bereavement UK @cbukhelp, offers a support helpline if you’ve been affected by child bereavement at any time.” They also included the contact information for Child Bereavement UK. “If you think it could help you or someone you know, please get in touch.”
Links to Sands UK, the Tommys team, and the Maternal Mental Health Alliance were also provided.
The Duchess of Edinburgh, who suffered an ectopic pregnancy in 2001, is among the royal family members who have been candid about their experiences of losing a child.
“It’s obviously a very traumatic time and my wife has… It’s quite the most painful thing anyone can undergo.” – her husband Prince Edward told reporters outside the hospital at the time.

“The experience is quite traumatic. The relief will grow as the pain subsides. I would also like to express my gratitude to the entire medical staff for their excellent work, prompt response, and professional handling of the situation.”
Meghan Markle and Zara Tindall have also been candid about their experiences; the latter revealed the heartbreaking news in an open letter titled “The Losses We Share” for the New York Times.
