Prince William’s Unexpected Choice to Forgo 2024 Olympics: What is He Keeping Princess Catherine Safe From?

As Kate Middleton returns to duties after completing chemotherapy for cancer, Prince William detailed that he did not attend the 2024 Olympics in Paris for the sake of his wife’s health.

Prince William continues to put Kate Middleton first.

Indeed, the Prince of Wales recently shared why he was not among Team Great Britain’s supporters in the crowd at the 2024 Paris Olympics and why it stemmed from protecting his wife amid her cancer treatments.

“I was so keen to come but I have to say after reading someone’s interview about COVID,” he explained in a conversation with Olympians Adam Peaty and Tom Dean during a visit to Birtley Community Pool in Tyne and Wear Oct. 3, per Hello magazine. “ I decided, because my wife was obviously having chemo, that I didn’t want to risk bringing COVID home.”

Of course, the 42-year-old—who shares Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6, with Kate—assured that his lack of attendance did not correlate to his family’s lack of interest in the summer sports competition.

“We watched the whole thing,” he added. “We were glued to it every day.”

And while it was a difficult few months for the royal family, Kate recently shared that she had completed her chemotherapy treatment—six months after sharing her diagnosis with the world and nine months after retreating from the public eye to focus on her health journey.

“As the summer comes to an end, I cannot tell you what a relief it is to have finally completed my chemotherapy treatment,” the Princess of Wales shared in a social media post Sept. 9. “The last nine months have been incredibly tough for us as a family. Life as you know it can change in an instant and we have had to find a way to navigate the stormy waters and road unknown.”

She added, “The cancer journey is complex, scary and unpredictable for everyone, especially those closest to you.”

Although Kate’s health journey will continue, she did make her first public appearance since announcing the completion of her chemotherapy late last month at Sunday service at Crathie Kirk in Scotland, alongside her husband as well as King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

And she promises her public engagements will become more frequent as her health improves.

As Kate put it in her September health update, “I am however looking forward to being back at work and undertaking a few more public engagements in the coming months when I can.”

Prince William recently made headlines when he revealed the real reason for his absence at the Paris Olympics: to protect his wife, Kate Middleton. This statement not only underscores the couple’s strong bond but also highlights the pressures of royal life and their commitment to family and duty.

Princess Beatrice is Expecting Baby No. 2

The royal and her husband of four years Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are expecting their second child together, the Royal Family announced Oct. 1.

“Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are very pleased to announce that they are expecting their second child together early in the new year,” the caption of their Instagram post read. “His Majesty The King has been informed and both families are delighted with the news.”

Kate Middleton Completes Chemotherapy

On Sept. 9, the Princess of Wales shared that she had completed chemotherapy after being diagnose with an unspecified form of cancer earlier this year.

“The cancer journey is complex, scary and unpredictable for everyone, especially those closest to you,” she said in a video statement. “With humility, it also brings you face to face with your own vulnerabilities in a way you have never considered before, and with that, a new perspective on everything.”

The royal added, “Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes. I am however looking forward to being back at work and undertaking a few more public engagements in the coming months when I can.”
