Country music icon Dolly Parton is well known for her flashy and fun style, but not many know the unexpected origins of her signature look. In a recent interview with People, Dolly revealed that her interest in provocative fashion was sparked by a racy catalog and some stylish town locals.
“I was kind of influenced by those early days, with women that I would see, like the loose women in our town, or just people that I’d see in magazines and the Frederick’s of Hollywood catalog,” Dolly shared. “I mean, that spoke to me.”
Despite facing criticism from her family, including her preacher grandfather who disliked her outfits and disciplined her for her clothing choices, Dolly remained true to herself.
Dolly’s bold fashion choices and unique style are chronicled in her new book, “Behind the Seams: My Life in Rhinestones,” which features 450 full-color photographs of her iconic looks stored in “big warehouses” on her property.
In addition to her fashion endeavors, Dolly is set to release her first rock album, “Rockstar,” next month, featuring collaborations with legends like Paul McCartney and Debbie Harry. One song on the album, “I Dreamed About Elvis,” pays tribute to the King of Rock and Roll, whom Dolly admired greatly.
While Dolly has no plans to go on tour anymore, citing her age and desire to spend time with her husband of over fifty years, she assured fans that retirement is not in the cards for her anytime soon.
“I wouldn’t know what to do if I retired,” Dolly expressed. “I might take off a month instead of a week sometimes, but no, I don’t plan to ever retire, unless my husband was sick or really needed me, or I was sick. That’d be the only two reasons that I’d ever quit.”
Dolly’s unwavering dedication to her craft and her timeless style continue to inspire fans across the globe, ensuring that she remains a beloved and iconic figure in the music industry for years to come.
