Harry and Meghan Enter New Privacy Era Regarding Archie and Lilibet: We Won’t See the Kids Again

A Father’s Day Silence

This year, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, opted for a low-key Father’s Day celebration. Unlike previous years, where public tributes and heartfelt messages were shared, the couple remained conspicuously silent on this occasion. Royal commentator Jack Royston pointed out this departure, suggesting that it signifies a “new era” for the Sussexes—one characterized by a deliberate move towards greater privacy.

We ‘won’t see the kids again’

“It’s interesting that we didn’t get any Father’s Day content from Harry and Meghan. I think they really have hit a new era of definitely wanting to keep their children in private,” he told Newsweek.

The expert also highlighted that while the couple has occasionally shared glimpses of their children, such instances have been scarce. “We’ve had nothing this year of Lilibet and we’ve had nothing for Father’s Day and it does feel like they’ve now hit a point where we perhaps won’t see the kids again.”

The Shift in Approach: A Triple-Barreled Invasion

Meghan Markle has been no stranger to battles over privacy. In 2021, she took legal action against the publisher of the Mail on Sunday and Mail Online for publishing parts of a private handwritten letter she had sent to her estranged father, Thomas Markle. Her lawyers argued that the publication constituted a “triple-barreled invasion” of her privacy, correspondence, and family life. The court ultimately ruled in her favor, emphasizing the personal and private nature of the letter.

A Heartfelt Plea

The letter in question was written in August 2018, following Meghan’s marriage to Prince Harry. It was an emotional plea from an anguished daughter to her father, urging him to stop talking to the press. Meghan’s intention was to address their strained relationship privately, not for public consumption. However, the newspaper group countered that Meghan had written the letter with the expectation that it might be disclosed publicly at some point, as a defense against accusations of being an uncaring daughter.

Balancing Privacy and Public Interest

The Sussexes’ recent decision to forgo public Father’s Day celebrations aligns with their ongoing efforts to strike a balance between their private lives and their public roles. While the media spotlight remains intense, they seem determined to shield their children—especially their son, Archie—from excessive scrutiny. The couple’s move towards greater privacy reflects their desire to protect their family while still engaging with the world on their own terms.
